We are Barbados Registries’ Secretariat Ltd., referred to below as BMSR, incorporated in the United Kingdom, and based at Barbados High Commission, 1 Great Russell Street, London WC1B 3ND. We are an Executive Agency working on behalf of the Barbados Government to control, administer and oversee the application of the Barbados Shipping Act 1994 by registering and inspecting Barbados registered ships and the licencing of crew.
The type of personal data we process or collect is information that you provide to us when you use our services, contact us by telephone, email or mail, either in person or as a contact for your organisation; BMSR may process data regarding:
- Crewing agencies
- Seamen and Seafarers
- Legal representatives & professional advisors
- Investigation Experts
- Medical providers

- Information regarding your health that you provide as evidence of fitness for service

- We do not use personal data for any marketing purposes.
Third Party Processing
Any personal data collected and stored is securely stored and encrypted. Such data may be stored for a maximum period of seven years from the date of storage, and thereafter will be destroyed. Third parties processing personal data include providers of a customised software platform for issue of officer endorsements and seaman’s record book. No biometric data is included in this processing.
Personal data stored by third parties is held in storage within the EU.
We may share this data with the Barbados government to fulfil our responsibilities to the Barbados government.
Our legal basis for collecting the data is that the data is required for us to perform our official functions on behalf of the Barbados government.
On written request, you have the right to receive information concerning your personal data and how it is used and processed. Any such request must be in writing and may incur a nominal charge to cover administrative costs.
You also have the right to request amendment or removal of your personal data.
