  • The provision of flag certificates issued  by the BMSR and statutory certificates issued by recognised organisation on behalf of Barbados;
  • The recording of ownership by the legal adding, amending or removing of entries from the Official Register of Ships, including the entering and deletion of mortgages;
  • The  issue temporary permits and permanent equivalences and exemptions, where in the Conventions such discretion is given to the flag Administration;
  • The above services are executed on behalf of the Government of Barbados which has authorised the Principal Registrar to act in these matters;
  • To issue seafarer endorsements and discharge books for seafarers employed on barbarian vessels;
  • To carry out flag state inspection as per Barbados shipping act;
  •  To assess  any marine accident and carry out marine safety investigation when required to do so; and
  • Flag Stater reporting to the IMO as required by Conventions.

    Barbados has been a member of IMO since 1971, and has ratified many of the international Conventions that have been instrumental in shaping the world’s shipping legislation.
