Barbados became a member of the Maritime Accident Investigators’ International Forum (MAIIF) in 2018 and the BMSR has been appointed as the country’s representative on the MAIIF.
The MAIIF is an international non-profit organization dedicated to the advancement of maritime safety and the prevention of marine pollution through the exchange of ideas, experiences and information acquired in marine accident investigation, and to foster international cooperation and cooperation between accident investigators.
The overarching goals are to encourage cooperation between administrations; disseminate information through the use of media such as website and social media; as well as improve the quality of accident investigation globally. Objectives include:
- To foster development and sustain a co-operative relationship among national marine investigators for the purpose of improving and sharing knowledge in an international forum;
- To improve maritime safety and prevention pollution through the dissemination of information gained in the investigative process; and
- To encourage through cooperation, the development, recognition, implementation, and improvement of related international instruments, where appropriate.
